Feest- en Cultuurpaleis Ostend

Oostende is known as the ‘Belgian Queen of Seaside Resorts’. Ostend is a modern and lively health resort with a lot of activity. The city offers all the facilities of a real cultural place. For years, artists found their inspiration in the ‘Ensor' city.

For the design of an eating place I found inspiration in the fact that nowhere at the Belgium coast you can find as many shops as in Ostend. As the hospitality venue is hidden in a big shopping mall I wanted to draw the attention of passing pendants. I found inspiration in different artists such as the Australian Sculptor ‘Ron Mueck’. By doing an in-depth research in different stores they gave me access to a look behind the scenes. While picturing different mannequins I wanted to increase their visibility and appeal. By playing with scale the impact on its passers-by becomes bigger. As I believe people are social beings I blend them all together at one table.
